BRAND: BRAINTREE

I recently wore a super soft, organic jumper from Braintree.  Braintree are passionate about using natural, organic, good quality and ethically sourced fabrics.

They are supporters of 'slow fashion' and strongly encourage the mending, recycling and donating of their clothes after you have finished with them. Every detail in their supply chain has been carefully looked at to ensure it is the most ethical and eco-conscious it can be.

Here is some more information from the brand about it's ethical beliefs, credentials, inspirations and initiatives:

NAME OF BRAND/COMPANY: Braintree Clothing

DATE IT WAS FOUNDED: Originally founded in Australia in 1995 and moved to London in 2002

BY WHOM IT WAS FOUNDED: Our founder is an Australia guy called John Snare, who runs the business with his partner, our Creative Director, and all round style genius - Rachel Kelly.

WHY WAS IT CREATED? In the Australian heat, the desire to wear natural cooling clothing sparked an idea and this is when John and his then business partner started to explore natural fabrics and fibres – not only did they allow your skin to breathe they also had a great sustainable footprint. They soon discovered the wonders of hemp - still very much one of our go-to fabrics today - and have introduced a whole host of other natural fibres as the collection has grown including bamboo, organic cotton, Tencel and Rayon.

WHAT WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR BRAND: We value doing the right thing and want to feel good about everything we touch. From the fabrics we use to how our garments are designed, made and delivered, each step of our collection’s journey is carefully considered and done so ethically whilst minimising our environmental footprint. We’re also proud supporters of ‘slow fashion’ and we want to help customers get the most out of their Braintree pieces. We believe in prolonging the life of both your clothes and their existence; one of the reasons we created our own mantra: ‘Wear Me, Love Me, Mend Me, Pass Me On’ printed on all our care labels. The idea is simple. Embrace it by wearing an item more than once before washing it (and then doing so at lower temperatures), mending clothes when needed, or giving them to others to continue their story. We have a great relationship with the charity Traid.org who have been teaching us and our customers how to repair our denim, darn our holey socks and moth bitten jumpers and also distribute preloved items through their network of charity shops. More info can be found on our blog BThoughtful – which is all about living more thoughtfully.

WHAT WE SHOULD BUY FROM YOU: Rather than follow trends, we imagine our own contemporary collections. All our pieces are designed exclusively in house and our prints come from our vintage archive or are hand-drawn by our talented design team. Our knitwear is extremely popular as we have an incredible knitwear designer who creates bespoke ‘cherish forever’ pieces like our 85% organic cotton 15% wool - Tasmania and Penda Skye Throws.  Our bamboo basics are great too - as they create the perfect layer that lets your body breathe – check out our vests, tees, leggings and of course, our best-selling, planet pleasing bamboo socks – we have a huge cult following ☺ I think the key to our collections is that we try and design boutique pieces in an innovative way, crafting comfortable, easy-to-wear silhouettes which can complement our customers’ modern wardrobe.
